Ready to Come Home

It was so much fun to finally dress Ruslan and Wyatt in their "going home" outfits. We bought them way back in December and they looked so cute. We had a little photo shoot while Scott was making several trips to the car with all of our stuff. Wyatt is wearing the blue outfit with the puppies and Ruslan is in the white outfit with the lions and tigers.

More from the Hospital

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent introducing the boys to family and spending lots of time together bonding. They spent the nights in the nursery and the nurses brought them back to the room to eat. These first pictures are from their second day - we were able to start to see all of their differences once they had a bath. In all of the pictures that include a binky - Wyatt has the blue one and Ruslan has the green one. And in their nursery beds they each have a stuffed animal at the end - Wyatt has a little Moose and Ruslan has a little Lion.

Tuesday afternoon when Juliana came to visit we had a birthday party for them. The party guests included: Mommy and Daddy, Juliana, Nonni and G, Nana and Papa.

Wednesday afternoon we brought their car seats into the hospital so we could set-up the buckles ahead of time (rather than trying to get everything ready at the last minute when leaving the hospital). Scott came up with the great idea to put their names on the sides of the car seats as well so we know that they are always in the seat with the straps in the right position. There is almost no space between the chest buckle and the bottom buckle, they are so small in these seats.
A few other pictures of them from Thursday morning - pictures of them sleeping in the nursery before they came to my room in the morning and then once they had finished eating and were lounging in the room.

Wecome Ruslan and Wyatt

We went to the hospital Monday morning for an amnio to double-check the babies' lung maturity. Then we went home to take a short nap prior to returning for the sheduled delivery that afternoon. We were scheduled to for the c-section at 1:30 pm, and they finally got started just before 2:00.

The Baby formerly known as Twin A was born first at 2:25 pm
Ruslan James Connelly
Weight: 7 lb 7 oz
Length: 19.5"

Ruslan is the name of a player for the Penguins. We liked the name which means lion in Russian. James is for Jen's dad.

The Baby formerly known as Twin B was born at 2:26 pm
Wyatt William Ward Connelly
Weight: 6 lb 8 oz
Length: 19.75"

Wyatt was another name that we liked right away, both names have been set for many months. It means brave, strong warrior. William is for Scott's Dad and Grandfather.

Everyone was surprised by how big they were. We were expecting 7 lb babies based on the last ultrasound so we were not surprised. With most twin deliveries they have a Dr from the NICU present in case there are complications at delivery. Within minutes of the delivery, the Dr. pronounced them healthy, told us he wasn't needed anymore and left. The 2 pediatric nurses left the OR a few minutes later since the babies did not need any special attention.

Scott was able to hold them both in the OR as the Drs finished working on me. Then he went to call Juliana and tell her that her brothers had been born and she was the first person to learn their names. Then Scott and our parents waited in the recovery room for me and the babies to be moved there. Everyone was able to hold the babies for a little while and eventually we were moved to our room to settle in for our first night. The babies spent the night in the nursery and got their first bath so I could have some recovery time and a little rest amidst the continual checks from Drs and nurses of course.

Ready for the Twins?

If all goes well with the amnio tomorrow morning (checking lung maturity), we will have the twins Monday afternoon. September 29th we found out that there were 2 babies and we have spent the past ~7 months getting used to the idea.

Since the positive pregancy test at the end of August, there have been:
  • 13 routine Drs appointments
  • 2 rounds of blood work
  • 4 ultrasounds
  • 11 monitoring appointments

All to ensure that the twins are healthy and thriving. It's a good thing we have a scheduled delivery date, otherwise I think these boys might be happy for a few more weeks in there.

It is still hard for me to believe that I am going to be coming home from the hospital with 2 babies; I guess it won't be a reality until they put them in my arms. I wonder what they will look like - will they look the same, will I have trouble telling them apart? What type of temperment will they have - calm, good sleepers :) Will their personalities be similar or completely different? How big will they be - my guess between 7 and 7.5 lbs. How will we adapt to the change in our household? How will we survive the sleep deprivation? How much will our daily lives change as we transition from a family of 3 to a family of 5?

Ready? I guess as much as we are going to get. I'm excited to finally see the boys and welcome them into our family!

More from the Nursery

The nursery is as ready as it is going to get for the boys. The curtains are hung, ceiling fan installed and clothes washed and ready. We found the ceiling fan on one of our many recent treks to Home Depot - I love it! And it is a perfect fit with our overall transportation theme. We have more odds and ends to hang up on the walls, but it is ready to go for their arrival.
